Here’s the early Associated Press report. We’ll update as more information becomes available:

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — U.S. Attorney Drew Wrigley says imprisoned American Indian activist Leonard Peltier has been denied parole.

Wrigley said Friday the next scheduled hearing for Peltier is 2024, when Peltier would be 79 years old.

Peltier is serving two life sentences for the execution-style deaths of FBI agents Jack Coler and Ronald Williams during a June 26, 1975, standoff on South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. He was convicted in 1977. He has claimed the FBI framed him, which the agency denies, and unsuccessfully appealed his conviction numerous times.

Peltier had a full parole hearing for the first time in 15 years last month at the Lewisburg, Pa., federal prison where he is being held.

Defense attorney Eric Seitz declined to comment on the U.S. Parole Commission decision, saying the Justice Department had not informed him.

Oh of course Leonard Peltier’s parole was denied just like the FBI never lie nor would they ever ever frame someone in order to get justice for a Native killing an agent we know that has never happened here. But boy if he was from Libya & killed a whole plane load of people he would have been out years ago especially if he had some incurable disease such as cancer, you know, because we are so humanitarian. Thank our lucky stars we have such a wonderful justice system that would never let an innocent native man spend the rest of his life in prison, would they?

This has further confirmed what I thought. America is corrupt and rotten to the core. The US govt. dictates to other countries about human rights but are worse themselves. Is Obama corrupt, spineless or powerless? A travesty!

The only legitimate hope Peltier has for release, rests in a Presidential pardon. Clinton backed out when the FBI marched around the White House. Obama will have a chance to revisit that issue. I would rate his chance of success at 27%. Better than anything heretofore!

This is no surprise in Native America, Leonard may never be free from prison, Obama really is his last best hope. Did you know that the FBI rallied when Leonard was being considered for a pardon? Or was it Bush, all the same right. But this is all the more reason to fight even harder, now is the time, Leonard Peltier is not forgotten. oh and one question for vince, are the British and the Scottish the same people, I honestly dont know and it is interesting that they set a terrorist free, but maybe thats just because thier governments are not as corrupt as ours huh?

i myself have done time and it is no fun. yah i believe in punishing the guilty and the laws of the gov. need to be revised also. but the point here is that he is doing time for two life sentences but yet a guy next door can kill my best friend and her two brothers and only get 7 yrs for it!!! Talk about unfair justice. Three people died in one night because of one kids poor choice. THREE!!! how is that fair compared to the FBI agents? Is it because they were feds, because they’re white, because the mattered? Well everyone matters in this world and if you are going to lock up a man for 7 yrs for 3 live he took then i think Peltier should be out!! Killing someone carries less time over all than selling drugs in SD.
