About Buffalo Post
Buffalo Post is a blog about Native American news and people at the Missoulian newspaper in western Montana. The Missoulian has a long commitment to coverage of Native American news and issues, and Buffalo Post adds a look at news affecting indigenous people throughout the world.
Buffalo Post is written by Gwen Florio, whose coverage of Native American news has twice been included in nominations for the Pulitzer Prize. It was started by award-winning journalist Jodi Rave, who left the newspaper in May 2009 to write a book about Blackfeet activist Elouise Cobell and the management of Indian trust lands. The Missoulian’s coverage also includes the work of Rob Chaney, who won a 2008 Best in the West award for his Native Stories, Our Stories series (http://missoulian.com/native/); Vince Devlin, who covers the Flathead Reservation; and Michael Jamison, whose territory includes the Blackfeet Reservation and who in 2001 wrote an eight-part series, “Women Who are Changing Indian Country,” that garnered a Pacific Northwest Excellence in Journalism award. The Missoulian’s coverage of Indian Country can be viewed online at www.missoulian.com (click on the Native News tab).
We feature that coverage and more on Buffalo Post, of course, along with frequent updates about Native American news around the country. We hope you’ll join the conversation, either on the blog or at Buffalo Post on Facebook and Twitter.
